Getting It Together with Buttercream

I finally feel like I am getting back on track after a busy summer and some much needed vacation time.  I spent the summer up to my elbows in buttercream with many a late night making sugar flowers in the studio.  I was 100% focused on making cakes.  Unfortunately as a business owner that means I let my accounting pile up, stopped adding pictures to my website and for sure did no blogging.  But I am back!

I just updated my website with a ton of new photos from all my work this summer.  I plan on tackling my accounting tomorrow and tonight I am blogging.   Between the May Long Weekend and the October long weekend I completed 67 cake orders.  This includes Wedding cakes, cutter cakes with cupcakes for weddings and tons of cakes for retirements, showers, birthdays and beyond.  At times it was stressful but I always managed to get everything completed.

I learned a few new things about myself and confirmed a few things I already knew.  I work well under pressure.  Sugar flowers are my favourite thing to create.  It is important for me to get out and connect with others as being a caker can be very isolating.  Working as a creative is absolutely what I should be doing.  Even my most stressful days as a caker are better than the drudge that can come with a regular 9-5 job, working for someone else.  Taking a vacation and disconnecting can do amazing things for ones soul!  Tequila is my friend.  I love what I do.

For the next little while I am going to blog about some of my creations.  I hope you all enjoy a glimpse into my world and keep coming back for more.
